Orbis and World Partnership
At Orbis we take pride in getting involved with the communities where we live and work. One particular charity we have built a solid relationship with is the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), a private, not-for-profit international development agency. AKF’s primary purpose is to provide long-term solutions to problems of poverty, hunger, illiteracy and illness in the poorest areas of South and Central Asia, Eastern and Western Africa, and the Middle East. Currently its major efforts are aimed at improving the wellbeing of expectant and new mothers in hopes of raising healthier children who will eventually be able to generate better conditions for their communities.
The Canadian branch of this agency organizes two big events every year; the World Partnership Walk and the World Partnership Golf. The walk started thirty years ago when a group of women in Vancouver decided to raise some money for the AKF by inviting people to walk and donate money for the noble cause. Then in 2000, the AKF Canada launched a golf tournament fully dedicated to raising funds and awareness towards its fight against poverty and exclusion.
Since Orbis was founded in 2001, we have been supporting both events as sponsors, participants and volunteers. It’s a tradition as much as a pleasure for us to give our time and effort to this cause. It makes us proud and enables us to grow our team spirit as we gather donations and help make this initiative visible to the Edmonton community. This year Orbis was again the signature sponsor of the golf tournament and an important partner of the walk. Our water station at the walk and the Orbis hole at the golf tournament are nowadays recognizable and expected by frequent walkers and golfers.
Orbis hopes to maintain the great relationship with our community as reflected in our support of different initiatives and organizations and in the way we treat our employees and their families. We work hard to support the community and we encourage other organizations to follow a similar path.
Orbis will keep contributing to these events and we hope others become as interested as us to be a part of the change!
