Orbis is passionate about community, both at home and abroad. Through an established relationship with the Universidad Nacional dese Colombia (UNC) in Bogota, Orbis has the opportunity to give fourth year electrical engineering students practical field experience. This opportunity has come from a long standing relationship with the university, where members of Orbis have travelled to present on industry standards in the past.
The partnership will hopefully see the first exchange students reach Canada this summer.
In addition to Colombian students joining Orbis in Canada, Orbis will also take its expertise directly to Colombia, where it will begin presenting an industry based practical course for both fourth year and continuing education students at UNC.
In all, the relationship between Orbis and the UNC includes:
- Setting up an exchange program to mentor 4th year electrical engineering students, allowing them to gain project and practical experience.
- Presenting industry based practical courses to 4th year students.
- Presenting continuing education courses for practicing engineers.
In addition to the relationship with UNC, Orbis has begun discussions with ACIEM (a Colombia engineering society similar to APEGGA) to help design standards in safety and practical guidance for electrical engineers.
